KIPO to Enhance Exchange and Cooperation with Local Chinese Government
The Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO, Commissioner Soo-won Lee) and Jiangsu Province, China, signed an MOU on April 10 for the protection of IP rights in Nanjing, the capital city of Jiangsu Province. KIPO Commissioner Soo-won Lee and Vice-governor Hequan and VIPs of the Jiangsu People’s Government agreed to cooperate and exchange IP information in the future.
KIPO has already signed an MOU for comprehensive cooperation in the area of IP rights with the State Intellectual Property Office of the People’s Republic of China (SIPO) and the State Administration for Industry and Commerce of China. This will be the first time it signs an MOU with one of China’s local governments responsible for actually carrying out the protection of IP rights.
KIPO, together with the Shanghai IP-desk of the Korean Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA), held a briefing on April 10 on how to discern counterfeit goods of famous Korean brands for 150 counterfeit crackdown civil servants of the Nanjing Administration for Industry and Commerce.
KIPO Commissioner Soo-won Lee said, “The event provided the opportunity not only to raise awareness on Korean companies’ brands among civil servants responsible for counterfeit crackdown, but also to open speedy contact channels between the civil servants and those responsible in each Korean company. As such, the protection of trademarks of Korean companies in this region is expected to be further enhanced.”
