Energy Ministers Convene in Washington to Discuss Clean Energy Technologies Minister of Knowledge Economy Choi Kyunghwan is in Washington, D.C., to attend a Clean Energy Ministerial hosted by the U.S. Department of Energy. The two-day event is the first of its kind to bring ministers from nearly 20 countries together to discuss clean energy technologies. On the first day, Minister Choi outlined the progress of Korea’s efforts to go green. He highlighted the importance of international partnerships to promote smart grids, a goal that Korea is actively pursuing. The discussions will center on specific areas of cooperation: These include smart grids, solar energy, wind power, highly energy efficient devices and electric vehicles. Detailed plans for each area will be announced the next day, with Minister Choi in charge of smart grids. On the sidelines, the Minister met with other participating ministers, including U.S. Secretary of Energy Steven Chu and Brazilian Minister of Mines and Energy Márcio Zimmermann. Minister Choi and his delegates will also sit down with their counterparts in the U.S. Department of Commerce to discuss issues of mutual interest including trade, investment, industrial technology and strategic items. * Released by the New and Renewable Energy Division |
